Speech Language-Pathologist/CALT
Is your child having reading problems?
If so, they’re not alone.
The National Assessment of Educational Progress (our nation's report card) reported that in 2019 only 35% of 4th graders in the United States were reading at a proficient level.
Could it be dyslexia? Dyslexia is a neurobiological condition that is characterized by difficulty with accurate and or fluent word recognition, poor spelling and decoding abilities.
Signs of Dyslexia - The Yale Center for Dyslexia and Creativity
One in five children face reading challenges that manifest themselves in various ways:
Poor rhyming ability
Poor working memory
Problems associating letters with the correct sound
Difficulty learning and remembering sight words
Poor comprehension
Spelling/handwriting difficulty
Kids with these issues simply process information differently and working with the right expert can help them gain confidence to chart a new course in their educational journey.
